Initially, we met with Heritage because of their location – they were right in our neighborhood – and their reputation for award-winning projects. Yet, after our first meeting, we really liked Mark and the way he listened to our dreams for our home. We weren’t certain that some of the things we were hoping for would be practicable, but he always seemed to find a resolution for what we wanted. We found ourselves going back to him because we trusted his opinion and his experience, and we felt at ease with his decisions. We really wanted to find someone we trusted, who could sift through our ideas and come up with a cohesive plan, and who could also put together a design that was a collaboration of our dreams and their expertise. Mark is definitely that person.
We love our neighborhood, our corner lot and our home. We contemplated moving to a bigger house or building a new house. We considered neither to be a viable alternative since we love living in the “city”, so we needed to add more space. Most important to us was to stay true to the era in which our house was built, but to also get some fancy new modern amenities. We wanted a large dining room and a kitchen with modern amenities, but not so modern that the kitchen would look out of place in a home of this era. We wanted space in the basement where our three year old could run carefree, and where we could have friends over for cards and conversation when we bring the three year old to Grandma’s. We desperately needed more closet space but also didn’t want to give up all of the storage space that we had in the basement. Tammy wanted a bathtub to soak in during the cold winter or just after a bad day at work. It was also important that we didn’t end with up such a huge addition to our home that we were left with all house and no backyard; we wanted to have some space in the backyard to enjoy the summer.
